B'Dard Tone was a Jedi Master of the Old Republic who fought in the Clone Wars most notably against the Separatist commander, General Grievous. Master Tone was a member of the Coway race from the planet of Mimban. Mimban was a world removed from the center of galactic events and the native civilization was still fairly primitive at the time of the Clone Wars. Nonetheless, B'Dard Tone's Force-sensitivity did not go unnoticed by the Jedi, and he eventually attained the rank of Jedi Master. B'Dard Tone participated in the mission to Geonosis with Jedi Master Mace Windu and two hundred other Jedi Knights. The Clone Wars began with the Battle of Geonosis and Tone was one of only a handful to survive the conflict.

Master Tone had a number of Padawans during his life. At the outbreak of the Clone Wars, B'Dard Tone had as his apprentice the Duinuogwuin star-dragon Zephata'ru'tor. Together the two battled against Separatist forces on the war front leading clonetroopers into battle. At the Battle of Nadiem, B'Dard Tone and his Padawan fought under the command of Jedi Master Luminara Unduli assisted by her Padawan, Barriss Offee. Nadiem was one of the earlier battles in which the Jedi confronted General Grievous. The Jedi and the Grand Army of the Republic managed to push back Grievous' forces resulting in his retreat.

Unfortunately, Jedi Master Tone and Zephata'ru'tor stood in the way between Grievous and his escape. During the battle Grievous killed Tone's Padawan and severely injured Tone himself. Barely escaping with his life, Tone was forced to replace his right arm with a mechanized limb and cover the left side of his face with a metal plate. Following the Battle of Nadiem, Master Tone was assigned a new apprentice, the Togruta Jedi known as Codi Ty. Witnessing first hand the ferocity and ruthlessness with which Grievous fought at Nadiem instilled within Tone the unquestionable conclusion that Grievous had to be stopped.
